Hofschank: a guest on the mountain farm

Hofschank

Stopping off at the mountain farms

The mountain farms and what they offer

Summer is a good time to visit a farmhouse inn. On traditional mountain farms, the farmers serve regional specialities with many farm-fresh ingredients on sunny terraces. But there are some good reasons to visit the mountain farms in the colder months as well.

Summer is a good time to visit a farmhouse inn. On traditional mountain farms, the farmers serve regional specialities with many farm-fresh ingredients on sunny terraces. But there are some good reasons to visit the mountain farms in the colder months as well.

A visit to a Hofschank (farmhouse inn) offers you much more than just" delicious South Tyrolean dishes made mainly from the farm's own products. You are immersed in a completely different world, sitting in a centuries-old 'Stube', surrounded by pleasant fragrances and can experience at first hand a rural culture that has evolved in a long tradition.

Definition Hofschank

But what actually is a Hofschank in South Tyrol? A Hofschank is always a mountain farm. It is located higher up than the traditional Buschenschänke, i.e. above the classical wine-growing zone. Hofschänke have therefore specialised in livestock farming. In addition to fresh vegetables, they primarily produce milk and meat. Every Red Rooster farmhouse inn therefore offers at least one dish with meat from its own farm. From calf and beef to venison and lamb - the origin is controlled by "Red Rooster".

Hiking destination Hofschank

More and more locals as well as guests are discovering the Hofschänke as ideal destinations for excursions. Each Hofschank is located along a hiking trail. So you can combine your stay with a rewarding hike and afterwards fortify yourself with dumplings and a magnificent view.
