Hikers and mountain freaks

The imposing mountains of South Tyrol offer the ideal conditions for an active Farm Holiday. And the special thing about it? You can find totally different hiking paths in the Dolomites to the ones in the west of the region. ‘Roter Hahn’ holiday flats guarantee the ideal base for your hiking holiday over all of South Tyrol.  Tours usually start from the farm and the farmer will give you tips about which corners of our world are right for your hike.

Keen ramblers can mainly look forward to the wide range of mountain pastures and high plateaus in South Tyrol. From the Villanderer Alm pasture in Eisack valley to Salten, the southern part of the Tschögglberg plateau between Meran and Bozen, you can enjoy the mountain air on extensive hikes without having to conquer the peaks.

All those looking for an adrenaline hit at lofty heights will find it in the varied Alpine landscape of South Tyrol. There is a range of high mountain trails, ‘via ferratas’, hikes to mountain peaks and Alpine high tours awaiting adventurous holidaymakers. And if you prefer to conquer a mountain peak away from the famous Dolomites, you’ll find a limitless selection of mountain routes in Ahrntal valley. This valley, with its 80 3000-metre-high peaks featuring challenging mountain tours, will reward keen climbers with spectacular views of the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Zillertal Alps.

There are lots of high peaks in the west of the area, such as in Martelltal valley. Here, at the heart of the Stilfserjoch Nature Park, imposing summits such as Monte Cevedale (2769m) or Hasenöhrl (3257) may be found standing next to each other. These mountains are far more than simple points on a map – they are living examples of Alpine culture and nature.

Shopaholics and culture lovers

Historical façades and winding alleyways may be found next to contemporary rural culture and stylish fashion boutiques in South Tyrol’s towns. No one town is the same as another. Each one has its own charm. Glurns, the smallest town in South Tyrol, with its medieval atmosphere, and the artists’ town of Klausen, are real insider tips. From palm trees and Mediterranean flair in Meran, Italian elegance in the capital town of Bozen, to the episcopal town of Brixen, a varied cultural programme may be wonderfully combined with a relaxed stay in rural surroundings. A few farms are just a few kilometres away from the town centre and may be reached using public transport.
