The farm
Origin of the residence:
Built by the legendary Grustner Adam, who successfully led his troops as captain in the battle of Anatolia (Istanbul) in 1580 during the infamous Turkish Wars. For his glorious deeds, he was elevated to the nobility and was thereafter able to add the title of Grustdorf to his name. As a reward, Archduke Ferdinand von Freudenstein gave him land in St Michael, Eppan together with his entourage. Today's Römhof, connected with the Grustdorf estate, is located in Eppan Berg and was used as a winter residence. In summer, however, Adam preferred to stay at the Grustdorf residence. The family died out around 1760. For around 100 years, the estate was inhabited by the noble Von Vintschger family. Around 1860, the Sparer farming family acquired the residence and converted it into a farm.
