Gröden Traditional Costumes

Gröden valley invites you to its ‘Gröden Traditional Costume’ procession on the first Sunday of August. A colourful variety of traditional costumes will be on show at the procession and everyone can experience the local folklore and customs. The festive procession takes place in one of the three villages of Gröden valley on alternate years.

The traditional costume of Gröden valley has ancient origins. At one time every social class had its own traditional costume, which was altered if a family status changed or with increasing age. As a result, there’s a great variety of traditional costumes in Gröden valley. To preserve this custom, the costumes are still worn today on special occasions or at religious festivals. These traditional costumes have always given the wearer dignity and pride and represent the farming community.

The traditional costume parade is part of a large festival where you can admire traditional folk dances, listen to Gröden valley music, and enjoy regional specialities.
