Learning to ski in serene surroundings

Learning to ski in serene surroundings

A Farm Holiday with a mini ski piste right in front of the door - some 'Roter Hahn' farms in South Tyrol have tow lifts or chair lifts just a stone's throw away. These bijou ski areas do not boast endless ski slopes, luxury mountain pastures and nightlife, but they are what lots of winter sports fans are looking for: a manageable size, idyllic, natural and inexpensive.

Small is beautiful...

There's no elbowing to get on the lifts, the pistes are wonderfully clear and parents can keep an eye on their children: small ski areas and village ski lifts are often real insider tips, even though they are overshadowed by the well-known larger ski resorts. In particular, families and casual skiers find this a good way to combine some skiing fun with the cosy winter surroundings. Guests on 'Roter Hahn' farms can expect to stay in snuggly holiday flats, lots of contact with farm animals and a fortifying breakfast made up of farm products. If you are just learning to get about on a snowboard or skis, there are trained ski instructors to teach you in South Tyrol's smaller winter sports areas, too.

And the best thing about it...
Some of the over 1650 'Roter Hahn' holiday farms are right nearby!

Small ski areas with up to 25 kilometres of piste
A skiing holiday away from the masses, with no long queues at the lifts and overcrowded pistes: we have made you a list of some small ski areas that have up to 25 kilometres of ski piste, where you will find a few hours of skiing a really enjoyable experience. Far away from mass tourism, these places have great slopes, unique views and often good value lift prices.

Village lifts and mini skiing areas
A little nipper or two has learnt to ski here - on the sunny slopes of the so-called village lifts or in mini ski areas. Most of these are in lower-lying locations and have just a tow or chair lift. Sometimes that's all you need for a pleasant few hours.
