Imagine waking up on a mountain farm over 1,500 metres above sea level. You open the window, breathe in the crystal-clear mountain air and marvel at the endless expanse. A holiday on a high-altitude farm in South Tyrol takes you to a place of relaxation not far from the tree line.
In the 19th century, many well-to-do families from Bolzano resorted to high-altitude farms in the summer months to escape the heat of the valley. Today, farms in the mountains offer a retreat for those seeking relaxation all year round. At lofty heights, you'll sleep like a log in the rooms or holiday apartments furnished with lots of natural materials. The silence on the mountain farm is a real treat for body and soul. The low air pressure also has a positive effect on the immune system and defences. In the morning you indulge in a heavenly breakfast and enjoy the many delicacies served up by the farmer.
Box seat for summiteers
You can start well-fortified from the farm on scenic hikes. After just a few steps you have a direct view of South Tyrol's mountain peaks and breathe an extra dose of fresh mountain air. In winter, the farms at over 1,500 metres are the ideal starting point for extended ski tours. The breathtaking panorama of the snow-covered winter landscape ensures an unlimited sense of elation. An unforgettable natural spectacle awaits all summiteers on a sunrise hike. In the very early morning, when it's still pitch black outside, you set off towards the summit cross. Nature slowly awakens at dawn and the first light of day and glow of your headlamp show you the way. Arriving at the top, the first rays of sun finally flash over the peaks of the South Tyrolean mountains. The sky shines bright fiery red until the sun envelopes the whole landscape in a warm golden yellow.
Real mountain farming life
On a farm holiday at over 1,500 metres you can delve deep into the life of the mountain farmers. You get to see how the animals on the farm are cared for and how the meadows and pastures are managed. A highlight of the farming year is the hay harvest, during which the grass from the mountain meadows is cut and hauled in. This serves as feed for the animals during the cold winter months. In the secluded farmyards, guests get an insight into the principle of self-sufficiency. Many raw materials are grown and processed directly on the farm. In the farm shop you can stock up on all sorts of products that will make your holiday in South Tyrol even more enjoyable. A trip with the farm family to the farm's own Alpine pasture is a special experience. Spend a sunny day on the high-altitude pastures with a fantastic view and enjoy the peace and quiet of the great outdoors.
