Brixen / Bressanone - Top station Valcroce/Plose
On the Dolomites High Route and Brixen High Route to Ochsenalm
Mountain hike crossing the Plose and way back on the Zirm high level path. From the top station of the cable car northwards, next to the fence, there is path n. 7 which crosses the south-east hillside of Schönjöchl and takes you to the same named saddle. Continuing close to the fence it takes you to the Plose hut (2445 m). Just a few hundred meters away there is Mt. Telegraph with the panoramic table. From there you can enjoy the spectacular 360° view of the Dolomites and Zillertaler Alps – all in all over 100 peaks. For the descent to Ochsenalm (path n. 6) a sure foot is requested. Once you have reached Ochsenalm, you follow path n. 30, the Brixen High Level Path, all the way back to the cable car.
With own car or by public transports you reach to station of the cable car in S. Andrea (8 km from Brixen), from here by cable car to Valcroce/Plose in 12 min.
This hike starts at the top station of the Plose gondola lift and follows a scenic loop high above Brixen. The trails climbs along the slopes of Schönjöchl to the saddle of the same name and, along the ridge, up to the Plose Hut (2,447 m). From there, a short, almost level stretch leads to the Telegraph viewpoint, where an impressive panorama platform awaits. Views sweep from the Zillertal Alps to the Dolomites, from the Brenta Group in the south to the Ortler massif in the west. A panorama table helps you identify the surrounding peaks at a glance. The route then descends to the lodge Ochsenalm; on the first section sure-footedness is required, after which the trail becomes gentler. From the Ochsenalm, trail no. 30 runs almost level along the upper edge of the stone pine forest back to Kreuztal/Valcroce, crossing hollows, gullies and the striking Trametsch Trench—staying in the heart of the panorama until the very end.
