Route description

From Moos (1,346 m) via Heideckstraße to the fork in the road at “Liener Stoll.” There, a path leads west to the Sextner Rundweg (No. 1). Follow this trail towards Fischleintal, past the Heideck fortress to the intersection with trail no. 12. Continue on trail no. 12 through shady forest, winding uphill until the Innergsellwiesen meadows open up above the tree line. A narrow path finally takes you to the highest point of this extensive alpine pasture – the so-called “Rosshimmel” at 2,065 m, which offers an impressive view of the mighty rock backdrop of the Sesto sundial. The trail now leads briefly westward downhill, then across a scree field below the Gsellknoten to the Außergsell (2,007 m). The descent initially follows trail no. 12A downhill to the picturesque meadows of the “Frohne” in Sexten, from where you can comfortably return to the starting point in Moos.
As there are no mountain huts along the way, it is advisable to bring sufficient provisions with you – there are numerous beautiful spots along the route that are ideal for picnics.
