The colourfully-decorated alpine cattle go back down to the valley after their summer retreat on the Kirchberg Alm.
From June to September, cows, sheep, goats and horses graze on South Tyrolean Alpine pastures at an altitude of over 2,000 metres, and this happens on the Kirchberg Alm in Ultental valley too. In September, the animals go back down to the valley from their summer retreat. The leading cow and the cows that follow her wear crowns made of fir sprigs, decorated with elaborate embroidery. Onlookers can buy homemade doughnuts made by the farmwomen and drinks too. This cattle drive is a true celebration that also heralds the cold season, and there’s a lot to discover at the farmers' market in St. Gertraud.
Farmers’ Market starts at 11.00 : Animals arrive at 14.00
