The farm
The Sinn family's St. Quirinus organic winery is located in the heart of a traditional vineyard in Oberplanitzing in Kaltern. Various grapes thrive in optimal climatic conditions on calcareous and gravelly soils as well as on porphyry rock. "Our wines, which are refined according to organic guidelines, are characterised by their fruitiness, structure and elegance," say farmers Robert and son Michael.

Knowing where it's from
The farm's vineyards are distributed from Tramin across the northern slopes of Lake Kalterern and Oberplanitzing to Terlan. Different locations, heights, slope orientations and above all soils have different influences on the grapes and the wine. For the best quality, it is important to find the best variety for each location. As a biodynamic company, the Sinn family, in addition to using biodynamic preparations, also ensures a healthy and resource-saving cycle in the company, which, in addition to keeping animals, also includes healthy tillage and responsible handling of products. Chemically synthetic products are avoided, be it in plant protection, weed control, fertilization or processing.

Processing
In the cellar, Michael works as gently as possible with grapes and wine in order to be able to accompany the quality that is produced in the vineyard into the bottles. A great deal of expertise is required in the expansion of the various varieties. Traditional methods meet modern techniques at St. Quirinus. While keeping the tried and tested, Michael experiments with different finishing materials, steel, wood, clay amphorae and blends of different types.
