The farm
On Römerhof farm, the Giovanett family grows an old type of corn that 50 years ago used to be known as 'Tirggplent' in the South Tyrol Unterland. The typical orange-red ears of corn are milled into four different types of gluten-free flour in the farm stone mill involving a series of traditional steps. The farm offers also rice from its own cultivation.

Knowing where it's from
The corn for the "Plentnmehl" from the Römerhof grows in the valley floor of Tramin with plenty of sunshine and on deep soil. The yield of the old autochthonous corn variety, which farmer Christian cultivates in a traditional manner, is lower than that of the new corn varieties, but it is much tastier.
Obtained from the fields of Römerhof
The harvested corn cobs are sorted out by hand, because only the best are processed. These are then ground into "Plentnmehl" in the farm's own mill. The unique taste of the refined product is due to the old local corn variety and the careful manual work of the Giovanett family.
