Val Casies/Gsieser Tal
Winter walking tour along the Unterrainer Sonnenstraße in Tesido
Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo. Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
From the parish church, follow the paved road in westward direction up to the Hotel Alpen Tesitin. Once there, you have managed most of the elevation gain of your winter hike. Now continue on road number 21 through narrow stretches of wood, the Teuffental, and pass handsome farms scattered wide on meadows and fields until you reach the Feichter Farm at 1377 m. At the edge of the forest there is an excellent opportunity for resting and observing the upper part of the Puster Valley. Particularly impressive is the skyline of the Dolomites that forms the background of the seeming joining villages of Welsberg, Prags, Niederdorf, Toblach, Innichen and the Sexnter Valley.
