Important notice: Proper footwear and suitable winter clothing are required for all winter hikes. Due to possible icy sections – even on groomed trails – the use of microspikes/crampons and trekking poles is recommended.
Parking available in the center of Moos (time-limited).
Coming from the Puster Valley, turn into the Sexten Valley at Innichen. Coming from the Kreuzberg Pass, follow the main road to Moos. Start anywhere in the center of Moos.
Line 446, bus stop Moos Kirche; alternatively, line 440 during the high season.
The starting point for this hike is the church in Moos. From there, follow the pavement out of the valley, past the Löwe restaurant. Shortly afterwards, cross the streat Fischleintalstraße at the large crossroads and then follow the main road SS52 (St. Josephstraße) uphill towards the Kreuzberg Pass. Follow the pavement past the Hotel Drei Zinnen until you reach the Hotel Rainer. A few metres above, there is a bus stop. Here, cross the road and take hiking trail no. 1, which is initially somewhat steep, towards the hut Hennstoll.
The winter hiking trail now leads through a beautiful, mostly quiet section of forest. After about 1.2 kilometres, you will reach the hut Hennstoll (1,474 m), which is the first rest stop. From here, continue the hike uphill and follow trail no. 1 towards Kreuzberg Pass.
The trail runs idyllically through the forest, partly over small bridges and in places alongside the stream. There are frequent small views, including across to the Caravan Park Sexten (1,527 m). Finally, you reach a fork in the path and continue to follow the hiking trail, which leads gently uphill through the forest. After a while, you come to wider sections of the path again and follow the signs towards Patzenfeld / Kreuzberg Pass.
