The Kurtatsch Wine Trail is a themed hiking path through the vineyards of South Tyrol’s southern valley. It illustrates the full “life cycle of wine” from grapevine to finished product, passing vineyards, villages, and information stations. On the 1.6 km path through the vineyards of Cortaccia, hikers can trace all of the important things that happen over the course of the wine-growing year. You’ll learn about wine cultivation, landscape, and history at a number of different information stations along the way. You can also smell different aromas found in wine.

Comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, weather-appropriate clothing, sufficient water and sun protection are recommended. As many sections run through open vineyards, sun protection is especially important.

Good access to the trail from all three villages

The Kurtatsch–Entiklar–Margreid–Kurtinig wine trail is easily accessible by public transport from the railway stations of Neumarkt (Egna) and Margreid (Magrè), both of which are ideal starting points for visiting the South Tyrolean Lower Adige Valley.

From Neumarkt station, regular bus services operate towards the wine villages along the South Tyrolean Wine Road, allowing flexible access to the wine trail.

Depending on the timetable, the individual villages are served by different routes, making both Kurtatsch in the upper section of the trail and Margreid and Kurtinig in the lower section easily accessible. Some connections are direct, while others require intermediate stops or transfers.

The wine trail can therefore be planned very flexibly: the hike can start or end in any of the three villages. All villages are well connected to the regional public transport network in the Lower Adige Valley.

Starting point: Kurtatsch village centre

Route: Beginning in the centre of Kurtatsch, the trail follows the Saltner Pratze symbol to the entrance of the Wine Educational Trail, marked by a giant grape sculpture made of glacier-polished river stones. The approximately 8 km trail leads through the villages of Entiklar, Margreid and Kurtinig in the heart of the South Tyrolean Lowlands. From Kurtatsch, the route first heads towards Entiklar and then continues to Margreid. From there it proceeds to Kurtinig, where the educational trail ends and connects with the local network of hiking paths. Each section links the villages of the wine-growing region and can also be explored individually.

Highlights: The Saltner Pratze trail symbol, the giant grape sculpture at the trail entrance, the vineyards of the South Tyrolean Lowlands, the wetlands near Kurtinig, panoramic views across the Adige Valley, and numerous information panels about nature, culture and viticulture along the entire route.
