Tappeinerweg Trail

Sunny panoramic promenade at around 380 m altitude, offering beautiful views over Meran and the Burgraviato area. The approximately 4 km long path runs from the Gilf Promenade to Gratsch and features Mediterranean and exotic vegetation. The path was created and donated to the city by physician and tourism pioneer Franz Tappeiner.

This varied hike links Partschins with the spa town of Merano via one of the most popular irrigation channel paths in the Merano area. Orchards, quiet paths and wide views accompany the route to Gratsch. The final section along the Tappeinerweg Trail is a true Meran highlight—perfect for combining nature, cultural landscapes and a touch of city atmosphere.

From Partschins to Meran via Oberplars and the Algund irrigation channel path, finishing on the famous Tappeinerweg Trail.

Partschins – trail 10A – Töllgraben – Oberplars – Algund irrigation channel path – Gratsch – Tappeinerweg Trail – Meran town centre

The walk starts in the village centre of Partschins. From here, the route follows Franz von Goldegg Street and then trail 10A, which leads through orchards across the Töllgraben to Oberplars. Passing the small area known as “Köstenwaldele”, the route continues briefly along the road, then turns right towards the centre of Oberplars. After the church, it reaches the bus stop, where the path turns left and follows trail 7 to the entrance of the irrigation channel path.

From here, the route follows the Algund irrigation channel path to Gratsch, on a pleasant, mostly level path with beautiful views over the Adige Valley.

At the end of the irrigation channel path, a suspension bridge marks the transition to the final section. A short stretch downhill on the road leads to the start of the Tappeinerweg Trail, one of Merano’s most famous walks. Following it brings you into Meran’s town centre, where the walk ends.
