Combine your museum visit with a walk to the submerged church tower in Lake Resia, one of South Tyrol’s most famous photo motifs. During the summer months, guided tours of the museum are available upon request.

A visit to the St. Anne’s Chapel above Graun is also worthwhile. The chapel was spared from the flooding and offers further insight into the region’s history
The Upper Vinschgau Museum – Old Graun is dedicated to the history of the flooding of Lake Resia in 1950 and the fate of the villages of Old Graun and Reschen. The exhibition presents this dramatic chapter of local history through historical photographs, models, sacred objects and everyday artefacts.

In several exhibition rooms and a traditional Alpine stube, visitors gain insight into the construction of the dam, which led to the loss of homes, farmland and an entire way of life. The museum not only documents the tragedy of the flooding, but also highlights the rebuilding of the villages and the cultural development of the region.

The famous submerged church tower in Lake Resia, today one of South Tyrol’s most iconic landmarks, stands as a silent witness to these events. The museum enriches this story with a collection of sacred artworks, statues and objects from former churches, preserving the memory of a past that still shapes the region today
The Upper Vinschgau Museum in Graun tells the moving story of the flooding of Lake Resia in 1950 and the submerged villages through photos, sacred art and historical objects
