Geologically interesting mountain tour
Car park Zans subject to a fee
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to Zans.
By bus from Klausen/Chiusa or Brixen/Bressanone through Villnöss Valley to Zans
From the parking area Zans (1680) follow the hiking path 25 along the Kaserill stream. You will soon turn left (oberer Herrensteig), which runs up a steep slope into the forest then continues on a less steep path with some flat sections. Above the forest we will take the Günther Messner route (2,250 m, with signposts) to the right until the next intersection (at approx. 2,580 m). Here we turn left and trudge up on scree to a col then a ridge and very exposed ahead to reach the Tullen Peak (2,652 m); at least 3 hours from the start
Recommended return route: via the same route to the lower intersection (2,250 m approx.), then turn right to the «Kofelwiese» meadow. Here (follow directions to Zans) turn left to the «Unterer Herrensteig», route 32, which takes you back to Zans along a plain and then steeply downhill; 2.5 hours from the summit.
Descent like ascent.
