Völs am Schlern/Fiè allo Sciliar
To the peak of the Plattkofel
The road to the landscape conservation area Seiser Alm is closed to private traffic from 9.00am to 5.00pm. During this time you can get to the Seiser Alm by the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis or by bus from Kastelruth. You can descend from Compatsch at any time.
The mountain tour starts at the mountain station of the Florian lift and leads over a wide, fairly steep dirt road up to the Refuge Plattkofelhütte mountain hut where the trail forks off to the left and leads over velvety-green slopes to the foot of the gravelly slopes of the Plattkofel. From here, numerous curves wind upwards and over the slopes until we get to a saddle in the summit ridge. The ridge breaks off steeply here, hence the need for surefootedness. Follow the ridge along and upwards to the summit. The descent follows the same route.
The Plattkofel is the only summit of the Langkofel group which can be tackled with success by inexperienced climbers. The ascent does, however, require a good level of physical fitness and, above all, surefootedness when you get to the summit ridge. The scene which awaits at the ridge is more than ample compensation for the ascent, as your view sweeps down to the Plattkofel cirque, over the Seiser Alm and on to the Vinschgau/Ötztal and Ortler Alps.
