Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies Valley, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.

Almweg 2000: Almweg 2000 path: To Tscharnietalm Hut, Stumpfalm Hut, Kaser Alm and Uwald Alm Hut
Follow the road no. 47/48 from the Head of the Valley (1465 m) in Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley – S. Maddalena to the Tscharnietalm Hut (1976 m). This is the start of the Almweg 2000 path, which is marked with a red dot throughout. Continue in a mostly gentle up and down to the Kipfelalm Hut (2104 m), Stumpfalm Hut (2000 m, refreshment stop) and Kaser Alm Hut (2076 m, refreshment stop). A marked trail leads into the pretty Pfoital Valley and then continues on the marked trail slightly ascending to the Uwald Alm Hut (2042 m, refreshment stop). The Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley  Almweg 2000 path ends here. Descent via forest path no. 12 to the starting point.

Almweg 2000 path: Gsieser Törl/Forcella di Casies (2205 m)
From the Head of the Valley (1465 m) in the Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley – S. Maddalena continue straight ahead into the valley to the hamlet Rotmoos, follow the trail no. 49 to the mountain huts Messnerhütte Hut (1660 m, refreshment stop) and Kradorfer Alm Hut (1704 m, refreshment stop) up to the Oberbergalm Hut (1975 m, refreshment stop) and further uphill to the Gsieser Törl/Forcella di Casies (2205 m). The Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley Almweg 2000 path, marked with a red dot, leads from the Gsieser Törl/Forcella di Casies, evenly cross the mountain slopes in a westerly direction to the Weißbachalm Hut (2112 m) and proceed the driveway downhill to the Acherle Alm Hut (1867 m) and, finally, via trail number 53 to the starting point.

Almweg 2000 path: Hörneckele, Pfinnalm Hut, Aschtalm Hut
From the village centre in Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley – S. Maddalena, follow the road all the way up to the Karbacher Hof Hut (1440 m, refreshment stop). Follow the Karbachtal Valley to the hut Schäfer Alm Hut (1616 m) and further on the path no. 52 till the cross of the Hörneckele (2127 m). From the Hörneckele, traverse the alpine slopes by following the red markings. At the fork of the Val Casies Valley Almweg 2000 path, cross the slopes towards the valley, partly evenly and partly gently descending all the way to the Pfinnalm Hut (2152 m), then to the Aschtalm Hut (1950 m, refreshment stop). Finally descend on trail no. 10 down to the hamlet Huben and along to the S. Maddalena village centre. By public bus back to S. Martino.

The Val Casies/Gsiesertal Valley has many beautiful alps, some of which also offer comfortable refreshment facilities. As the name "Almweg 2000" suggests, the route leads on average about 2,000 meters above sea level from the Hörneckele in S. Martino to the Tscharnietalm hut in S. Maddalena.

It is recommended to divide your hike along the trail in several stages and not walk the whole trail in one day. There are several access and descent options for the Almweg 2000.
