After 1200, Bishop Konrad von Rodank had a pilgrim hostel built to provide travellers with accommodation and care. This is where the name Hospital Church comes from. Numerous floods shaped the history of the site, but the small, round church itself has survived to this day.

The distinctive domed structure is topped by a conical roof and a small roof turret. Inside, visitors can still admire remains of Romanesque frescoes, which bear witness to the church’s long history.

Until 1460, the Hospital Church served as the parish church of Klausen. Due to the constant risk of flooding, the parish seat was later moved into the town. The church was subsequently reconsecrated and dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the martyr.
