The hike starts in the village center of Deutschnofen | Nova Ponente. The hike begins on a tarred path, then a gravel path, then a forest path [E5] in the direction of Wölfl farm.The [E5] trail is the European long-distance hiking trail that leads from Constance over the Alps to Venice. By taking this route, the snowshoe hiker can experience a small section of this trail.

From the village centre in Nova Ponente/Deutschnofen, with its magnificent elevated position surrounded by mountains, the [E5] forest trail leads to the Rotenstein and Rotwand viewpoints to Colle di Bolzano. In just a few short minutes, snowshoe hikers can descend from here to South Tyrol's capital city, Bolzano, via the oldest suspended cable car in the world. After a quick stroll through the city, return to Nova Ponente by public bus.
