General description

Passing Vernaun and Labers castles en route, the finishing point of this pleasant, approximately two hour-long hike is Trauttmansdorff. As well as a visit to the botanical gardens, a detour to the Museum of Tourism is also well worthwhile.

Description to arrive at destination

From Merano direction Schenna and further to the village center

Route description

You start this hike in the center of Schenna. Follow the road towards Merano until the St. Georgen/Pichlerstraße junction. Here, take path no.3 up St. Georgen Street until the turn at the Mühlhaus. At this point, turn onto path 3A and hike through the apple orchards up to Vernaun Castle. From here, continue along the access road to the valley station of the Merano 2000 cable car, where you will hike through the forest below the parking lot on the left side of the Naifbach stream to Labers Castle(first path no. 5, then 2B). From Labers Castle, follow the paved path down to Rametz Castle. Cross the road twice to reach the Kastanienweg, then follow the signs to Trauttmansdorff.
