This easy, generally flat hike leads through the meadows and forests along the Maiser Waal irrigation channel and is especially popular with families who even enjoy walking the route on hot summer days. 

From Merano direction Schenna and further to the village center

• Paid parking lot "Baumann" behind the tourist office Schenna

• Bus line 231 from Meran to Schenna (bus stop: center)
• for the return bus line 240 from Saltaus to Meran (bus stop: Plankensteinstraße), then bus line 231 to Schenna

The starting point of this family-friendly hike along the Maiser Waal irrigation channel is the tourist information office in Scena. Here Rothalerweg (road marked no. 10B) leads down to the Maiser Waalweg trail. This trail runs along its mostly shady route through mixed forest and orchards past the Waalerhaus (a hut for irrigation channel maintenance workers) as far as the Hirzer cable car to Saltaus. The return journey to the starting point in Scena is by public bus.
