Thanks to the various access options, the tour can be adapted individually. A combination with Hochnall peak or a ridge traverse is particularly rewarding. An early start is recommended to enjoy the summit views in a peaceful atmosphere.

The hike to Rammelstein peak is a varied and scenic summit tour above Antholz Valley, with several access options. The distinctive peak rewards hikers with impressive panoramic views over the Antholz Valley, the Pustertal Valley, and the surrounding peaks of the Rieserferner group and the Dolomites.

Depending on the starting point – Antholz Mittertal, Antholz Niedertal, Oberrasen or Niederrasen – different routes lead through forests, alpine meadows and along scenic ridges up to the summit. A common section of the routes from Antholz is the Grente Alm hut, from where the ascent continues via the Grente Cross to the summit.

The tour stands out for its scenic diversity and flexible route options. Sure-footedness is required near the summit. The descent follows either the ascent route or alternatively the alpine path back into the valley.

Sturdy hiking boots, weather-appropriate clothing, and sufficient water and provisions are recommended. Sure-footedness is required near the summit and along the ridge. Trekking poles can be helpful during the descent.
Scenic hike to Rammelstein with several access options from Antholz and Rasen.
Parking is available at the small hiking car park at the end of the asphalt road above the Waldrast farm in Antholz Mittertal, as well as in Antholz Niedertal, Oberrasen and Niederrasen – depending on the chosen starting point.

From the Pustertal road, turn off into Antholz Valley and reach, depending on the chosen route, Niederrasen, Oberrasen, Antholz Niedertal or Antholz Mittertal.

Take bus line 431 from the Olang-Antholz train station or from Lake Antholz to Antholz Mittertal, Antholz Niedertal, Oberrasen or Niederrasen. The starting points can be reached on foot from there.

Variant Antholz Mittertal
We start in Antholz Mittertal and follow the road towards sawmill Ausserweger. There, we turn right and continue to the parking area (accessible by car). From here, we either take the steep trail (no. 6A) or a forest road up to the Grente Alm hut.
From the hut, we follow trail no. 6 to the Grente Cross and then to the summit of Rammelstein. The final steep section requires sure-footedness and a head for heights. Secured wooden steps and partially cable-protected rocky sections lead to the summit cross.

Variant Antholz Niedertal
We start in Antholz Niedertal and walk to the Maierhöfe farms (Pfaffingerhof and Kaltenhauser farm). From there, we follow trail no. 6 up to the Grente Alm hut, where the routes merge. We then continue as described above via Grente Cross to the summit.

Variant Oberrasen
We start in Oberrasen and follow trail no. 3 towards Burgfrieden. From there, the path leads through the forest up to the summit of Hochnall and continues along the ridge to Rammelstein peak.
Alternatively, we hike from the barbecue area up to the Unterhütten huts (1,671 m) and further to the Laneralm hut (1,829 m), both unmanaged. From there, we follow trail no. 4b along a scenic ridge to the summit of Rammelstein.

Variant Niederrasen
We start in Niederrasen and first ascend to peak Hochnall. From there, we follow the ridge to the summit of Rammelstein.

Descent
The descent follows either the ascent route or alternatively one of the other described routes back into the valley.
