A stop at the Pedrutscherhof is well worth it – here you can enjoy homemade, traditional regional cuisine, perfect for a delightful break along the trail.

The Post Trail is a historic connecting path linking Laion with the Val Gardena and the hamlets of Ceves, Tanurza and S. Pietro. It follows old routes once used by postmen and traders and leads through a varied cultural landscape of meadows, farmsteads, woodland sections and wide views of the Dolomites. The trail is easy to walk, well signposted, and suitable for casual walkers, families and leisure hikers. It offers a quiet, authentic landscape experience and reveals the gentle side of the sunny slopes above Laion.

Easy, historic connecting trail from Laion to S. Pietro and the Val Gardena. Varied scenery, beautiful views, ideal for leisurely walks.
Free parking at the sports field in Laion.

  • From Chiusa, follow the road towards Val Gardena. At the junction after the petrol station, turn left towards Laion.

From Ortisei:
Take bus line 351 directly to Laion, Trojer Anger or Laion, Baumann (access point to the Post Trail).

Start: Laion, Baumann bus stop (Passing the Ploner butcher’s shop in the direction of Ceves).

Follow the “P” signs for the Post Trail and reach Ceves (1,212 m, refreshment stop) via gently ascending field paths. With a constant view of the Sassolungo, the route continues variedly through meadows and fields. Above the hamlet of Tanurza, the trail leads into the forest; near the Felsonnes farmsteads, it briefly drops to the lower side of the main road before continuing to S. Pietro (1,211 m, refreshment stop).

Here, follow the partly new trail alignment (signposted), then the ascending asphalt road to the Pedrutsch hut (1,210 m).

A nearly level forest path leads southwards above Pontives to a partly rocky, steep forest slope. After crossing this section, a bend leads to the fields of Außerwinkel. At the junction, keep right; the “P” markers guide you from the first houses of Außerwinkel to the Nevel street into the centre of Ortisei.

Return on the same route or by public transport.
