Kasern-Prettau/Casere-Predoi
On historic paths in Kasern/Casere
Once many different lines of people walked over the „Krimmler Tauern” - hunters, farmers, seamstress, smugglers, soldiers and the path makers themselves. The Tauern crossings into ‘‘Salzburgerische’’ (in Austria) have a tradition that goes back to thousands of years. The historical importance of the route is also confirmed by the ancient “Hl. Geist” church. Furthermore the area is interesting because of its flora and fauna.
Bruneck/Brunico - Kasern-Prettau/Casere-Predoi 42 km
From Kasern (1,595 m) we go along the path of the cross to the pilgrim’s church of “Hl. Geist“. From Trinkstein we take the historic „Tauernweg” (path 14) to the upper “Tauernalm” cabin (2,018 m). The high altitude path provides superb views as we reach the “Schütttalalm” cabin from where we begin our descent to the valley. If you are in a good shape then an additional section can be undertaken to the „Krimmler Tauern” (2,633 m). From there, take the “Lausitzer Höhenweg” (high altitude path nr. 13) to reach the “Hl. Geist“- Jöchl and, from there, follow path 15 again to Kasern. Rest Stop: Tauernalm
