Völs am Schlern
Mountain hike throug the Bärenloch at the Schlern
This long, exceptionally beautiful loop route leads out from Weißlahnbad to the Bärenloch on the Schlern and back through the Bärenfalle gully to your set-off point. For this tour, you must be sure-footed and have a good head for heights.
The starting point of the tour or the sight is easily and comfortably accessible by public transport:
By bus line 176 from Völs am Schlern to St. Zyprian, Weisslahnbad or by bus line 185 from Bozen bus station to St. Zyprian.
The walk starts from Weißlahnbad and leads through the Tschamin valley on path no. 3 until you get to the Rechter Leger. At the end of the Tschamin valley, take the trail north to the wild gully of the Bärenloch, an ascent which takes you over rocky scree and requires a sure foot. The trail then meets with the walking path from the Tierser Alpl to the Schlern. Take this trail to the high plateau and huts of the Schlern. From here, the tour leads down in sweeping curves to the St. Kassian Chapel (trail no. 2), over vast alpine meadows to the Tschafatschsattel and on the Bärenfalle, a steep gully. The Bärenfalle stretch is exposed, and can get fairly breezy at times. The steep descent (trail no. 2) takes you back to the set-off point.
