Mountain tour to the Carnic Ridge.
  • 360° panorama
  • Challenging ascent via the "Heimatsteig" trail
  • Option to use the cable cars
Parking is available in the center of Moos (limited time).
Coming from the Pustertal valley, turn off at Innichen into the Sexten valley. Coming from the Kreuzberg pass, follow the main road to Moos. Start anywhere in the centre of Moos.
Line 446, Moos Church bus stop; alternatively, line 440 during the high season.
The tour starts in Moos, directly at the Schäfer department store, from where you follow the Helmweg uphill past the Palmstatt houses until you cross a small bridge on the right side of the road; there, follow the signs for trail No. 1 to the left, cross the ski slope and continue along the fence up to the Kristlerhöfe farms and the Helmhanghütte. Passing the hut, follow the path a short distance further towards Egge, turning left at the last hut into the sparse larch forest to consistently follow summer trail No. 3A, the so-called "Heimatsteig"; the narrow path climbs steadily along the ridge and offers the first beautiful views. Once you leave the tree line behind, follow the distinct mountain ridge steadily further uphill to the summit of Mount Helm at 2,434 m, which rewards you with a magnificent 360° panoramic view of the Sexten Dolomites and the Pustertal valley; the return journey is either via the same path back to Moos or alternatively to the mountain station of the Helmjet cable car for a comfortable ride down to the valley.
Tip: Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can take the Helmjet cable car from Sexten to gain significant elevation and start the tour from the mountain station – ideal for families or less experienced hikers.
