Long mountain hike from St. Magdalena via Kalksteinjöchl to Pfannhorn with descent through the Versell Valley.

Parking lot on payment at the head of the valley in the Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena.

Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies Valley, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.

Bus line 441

From the Head of the Valley in the Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena (1460 m, paid parking) follow trail marker no. 48 across the bridge over the Pidig stream. Turn left and after the Schlosserhof farm turn right. Continue along the trail to the junction, then turn right following trail marker no. 48 through the forest up to the Tscharnietalm (1976 m, no refreshments). Then continue following trail marker no. 48 southeastwards to another junction, there keep left (straight ahead) and follow trail marker no. 48 A eastwards to the Kalksteinjöchl (2349 m). From here continue on the Bonner Höhenweg (trail no. 12) on the eastern side of the ridge southwards to the Pfanntörl (2511 m). Turn left up the northwest ridge of the Pfannhorn to the summit (2663 m).

Descent: from the summit back to the Pfanntörl, then follow the Bonner Höhenweg on the eastern side of the Gaishörndl via trail no. 8/12 northwards to the Gruber Lenke (2487 m). Here change to the west side and follow trail no. 44, first in serpentines across steep terrain, then over alpine meadows down to the Versellalm (at 1942 m the Tolder Hütte, somewhat lower the Randlhütte, both with refreshments). From here continue along the farm road no. 44 through the Verselltal down to St. Martin (1276 m). Return to the starting point by bus or on foot via the Talblickweg (approx. 30 min).
