HISTORICAL PATHS BETWEEN SOUTH TYROL AND SALZBURG REGION 

Tour: Kasern/Casere – Krimmler Tauernhaus mountain refuge – Warnsdorfer Hütte mountain refuge – Birnlücken Hütte mountain refuge Kasern/Casere

4 days – 3 overnight stays

The hike is rated intermediate-high for level of difficulty and offers unforgettable moments. The tour requires experience, not to suffer from vertigo, sure-footedness, physical fitness as well as suitable equipment. 

1st day

From Kasern/Casere (1,595 m) in direction of the Tauernalm hut (2,018 m) and then the Krimmler Tauern Pass checkpoint (2,633 m). Descent on the Salzburg (region)-side to the Windbachalm hut (1,882 m) and then to the Außerunlaßalm hut (1,666 m). Through the Krimmler Achental Valley to the Krimmler Tauernhaus mountain refuge (1,622 m). Walking time approx. 6-7 hours

Overnight stay: Krimmler Tauernhaus mountain refuge

2nd day

From the Krimmler Tauernhaus mountain refuge in direction of Innerkeesalm hut (1,814 m) and then Warnsdorfer Hütte mountain refuge (2,324 m).  Walking time approx.. 6-7 hours

Overnight stay: Warnsdorfer Hütte mountain refuge

3th day

Possible ascent to the peak Gamsspitzl (2,888 m) and return to the Warnsdorfer Hütte mountain refuge (additional walking time approx. 2 hours). From the Warnsdorfer Hütte mountain refuge ascent to the Birnlücke checkpoint (2,667 m). From there descent on the South Tyrolean side to the Birnlücken Hütte mountain refuge (2,441 m). Walking time approx. 2-3 hours

Overnight stay: Birnlücken Hütte mountain refuge

4th day

Descent in direction of Kasern/Casere. From the Birnlücken Hütte mountain refuge to the Lahneralm hut (1,979 m), Kehreralm hut (1,842 m) and then Kasern/Casere (1,595 m).
