Children:
Due to its length and considerable elevation gain, the entire alpine pasture circuit is not suitable for families with small children. However, individual alpine huts along the route make excellent destinations for families.

Seniors:
A very long and physically demanding hike with more than 2,400 metres of elevation gain and some alpine sections.

Dogs:
Please keep dogs on a leash at all times (be careful in grazing areas). Due to the length and considerable elevation gain, dogs should have an appropriate level of fitness. Drinking water is available at several points, including the Kalter Brunn spring.

Waste disposal:
Please do not leave any litter in nature. Take all your waste with you and dispose of it at your accommodation or with your household waste.

Cigarette butts do not belong in nature either. They pose a fire hazard and have a significant impact on the environment. Just one cigarette butt can contaminate up to 50 litres of water with harmful substances. Never discard cigarette butts in nature, on trails or near bodies of water. Please use our free pocket ashtrays, available at the tourist offices.

Paper tissues also do not belong in nature and should be disposed of with residual waste. They decompose very slowly and can remain in the environment for several years.

Towards the sun – from alpine pasture to alpine pasture: the Almenrunde trail follows the sunny side of the Ahrntal valley from St. Peter/S. Pietro via St. Jakob/S. Giacomo and Steinhaus/Cadipietra to St. Johann/S. Giovanni (Mühlegg/Costa Molini).

This varied hike leads through flowering mountain meadows, larch forests and traditional alpine pastures, offering beautiful views of the Ahrntal valley, the Dolomites and the Rieserferner Group along the way. At the same time, it provides an insight into alpine pasture life, both past and present.

Several staffed alpine huts along the route invite you to stop for refreshments. Hollenzalm serves Ahrntal specialities and traditional snack platters and also features a Kneipp pool, sun loungers and a playground. Wollbachalm offers traditional alpine specialities and a playground. Holzerböden Almschank serves Tyrolean dishes, traditional snack platters and its own homemade cheese. Bizathütte is especially popular with families, thanks to its enchanted witch and magic forest, animals, water features and a variety of play areas.

About halfway along the route, after Hollenzalm, you will reach Kalte Brunn, a natural spring and a welcome opportunity to refill your water bottle with fresh spring water. Those who do not wish to complete the entire route can shorten the hike along the way and descend into the valley earlier. At the end of the tour, it is also worth making a short detour to the Frankbach waterfalls.

As this is a long point-to-point hike from St. Peter/S. Pietro to St. Johann/S. Giovanni (Mühlegg/Costa Molini), you can plan your arrival so that you can conveniently return by bus after the hike.

The trail starts in the village of St. Peter/S. Pietro, near the old barracks, and leads across the sunny southern side of the village, through lush green meadows and forests towards St. Johann/S.
