Challenging mountain hike on partly narrow paths.
  • Fantastic panoramic view at the summit
  • Individually plannable (with cable car ascent or entirely on foot)
  • View of the peaks of the Three Peaks
Parking is available in the center of Moos (limited time).
Coming from the Pustertal valley, turn off at Innichen into the Sexten valley. Coming from the Kreuzberg pass, follow the main road to Moos. Start anywhere in the centre of Moos.
Line 446, Moos Church bus stop; alternatively, line 440 during the high season.
The tour starts in Moos, directly at the Schäfer department store, from where you follow the Helmweg uphill past the houses of Palmstatt until you cross a small bridge on the right side of the road; there, follow the signs for trail No. 1 to the left, cross the slope, and continue along the fence up to the Kristlerhöfe farms and the Helmhanghütte. From here, always keep right along the ski slope and continue past the hut to Egge, then follow trail No. 13, which is initially level but becomes increasingly steep as it leads through sparse forest and open terrain to the Klammbachalm (1,944 m) – a managed alpine hut, ideal for a rest with a view. From the alpine pasture, the terrain becomes more open: follow trail No. 133 northwards over the mountain ridge until you reach a saddle at 2,418 m, from where a wide, easily accessible ridge leads without difficulty to the summit of the Hornischeck (2,550 m). Once at the summit, an impressive panorama of the surrounding Sexten Dolomites opens up – a true highlight of this tour; the return journey is either via the same path back to Moos or alternatively to the mountain station of the Helmjet Sexten cable car or the Drei Zinnen cable car for a comfortable ride back to the valley. Tip: The Drei Zinnen cable car can be used in advance to save some elevation gain – ideal for those who want to experience the summit without a long ascent.
