High Altitude Trail Lausitz
The High Altitude Lausitz is one of the oldest high-altitude trails through the mountains of the rearmost Valli dei Tures e Aurina-Tauferer Ahrntal valley. It leads from the Birnlücke Pass/ Passo Forcella di Picco to Hundskehljoch Pass/Passo del Cane.
The hike is rated intermediate for level of difficulty and offers unforgettable moments. The tour requires experience, not to suffer from vertigo, sure-footedness, physical fitness as well as suitable equipment.
From Kasern/Casere (1,595 m), trail nr. 13 leads up to the Lahneralm alpine farm (1,979 m) and then to Birnlückenhütte/Rifugio Tridentina mountain hut (2,440 m). From there, the trail is marked “Lausitzer Höhenweg/Alta Via della Vetta d’Italia” as well as nr. 13 and goes west to the jagged Pfaffenschneide, down the Teufelsstiege (Devil’s Staircase), through the Kerrachkar cirque, and to Neugersdorfer Hütte/Rifugio Vetta d’Italia mountain hut (possibility for descent on trail nr. 14). Continue on the trail nr. 13 until the Hundskehljoch Col (possibility for descent on trail nr. 15). From there trail nr. 16 b leads to the Waldneralm hut. Take trail nr. 17 in order to come back to the starting point in Kasern/Casere.
