“Herrnsteig” hiking tour in Villnöss valley
Through the Eisacktal/Valle Isarco valley to Klausen/Chiusa turn into Villnöss/Funes valley and drive to Zans
Since the 16th century, many forests were under the Tyrolean sovereignty. In those forests, the “Herrensteig” paths were created. Experience the impressive circular hiking tour “Herrnsteige”, with spectacular views of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Geisler Mountains of Villnöss/Funes valley.
Start and end of hike: Car park Zans. Duration: 4:00 h, Distance: 10 km, Difference in altitude: 790 m, Maximum Altitude: 2.259 m.
From the car park Zans (1680 m) take the path No. 25 along the Kaserill stream (about ½ hour), until you reach the junction with the "Herrensteig". Turn left uphill through the woods (about 20 minutes) and follow the idication “Oberer Herrensteig” No. 25. Walk westwards until you reach the highest point of the trail (2250 m). Following the trail, you will see a small hut not far away, and then turn left on trail No. 32A until arriving at the beautiful "Kofelwiese" meadow (1952 m). From “Kofelwiese” meadow, follow the signposts for Zans. Walk on the “Unterer Herrensteig” path – No. 32 in direction of the forest. At the junction turn left and continue on the path No. 32. Eventually, you will reach a second junction and this time turn right on trail No. 32B, descending through the woods to return to the starting point.
