This hike begins in the heart of Ortisei, right at the Parish Church. From there, the charming Luis Trenker Promenade leads into the valley until the “Bera Luis” house. Just behind it, by the playground, a path branches off to the left and climbs through a small hollow to meet the Grohmann Trail above.
At the bend near Nishof farm, the Grohmannsteig branches off gracefully from the main path. Passing through a shady little valley and across pretty grassy slopes, the trail leads to the Grohmann Monument – a special place dedicated to the first man to climb the Sassolungo, Paul Grohmann, offering beautiful panoramic views.
From here you may continue your hike: in just 30 minutes you can reach the picturesque St. Jacob’s Church, perched above the valley, rich in history and set in a truly unique location.
The descent follows either westward via Col de Flam or retraces the same route back – both options reward you with delightful views of the valley and the surrounding Dolomites.
