The trail begins at an orientation board at the Melager Alm Alpine farm (1,970 m). Explanatory notices draw your attention to a total of 12 stations. The route leads through high Alpine terrain and therefore requires surefootedness and sturdy hiking boots. The destination point near the Weißkugelhütte at 2,557 m provides views of today’s glacier environment near the Weißkogel peak (3,738 m). Marks in the moraine show the past extent of the glacier from 1820­1850. This provides one with an impression of the extent to which the glacier has receded and the changes to the landscape in the last 160 years.

On the Venosta Valley Road SS40 to Curon Graun. From Curon Graun about the LS 49 to the parking at the end of the valley in Melag.

This route leads along a well laid out Glacier Educational Trail (Gletscherlehrpfad) with fantastic panoramic views of the Weißkugelhütte mountain hut.
