Mount Orenknott (2,258 m) is a panoramic pre-peak on the ridge leading to the Zielspitze above Partschins. The starting point is the Merano High Mountain Trail Nr. 24 (Meraner Höhenweg Nr. 24), easily accessible via the Texelbahn panoramic cable car.

From the summit, hikers enjoy sweeping views across the entire Adige Valley and, on clear days, as far as the Dolomites.

Texelbahn cable car – trail 2 – trail 25A – Orenknott – trail 25 – Oren Alm – Hochforchhof – Merano High Mountain Trail Nr. 24 – Texelbahn cable car

From the Texelbahn cable car mountain station, follow trail 2 towards the Zielspitze peak.

After a steady ascent, turn left onto trail 25A, which leads to the summit cross of Orenknott (2,258 m).

Descend via trail 25 to Oren Alm, continue to Hochforchhof, and return along the Merano High Mountain Trail Nr. 24 to the Texelbahn cable car.

Did you know?

Despite its name, Orenknott has nothing to do with the human ear.

The word derives from the South Tyrolean dialect term “Our”, meaning capercaillie (wood grouse). “Knott” refers to a rocky outcrop or summit.

The name therefore describes a rocky peak that was once habitat for capercaillie.

Orenknott is also a prominent pre-peak on the ridge towards the Zielspitze, offering magnificent long-distance views in a rugged alpine setting.
