In summer, from June to October, weekly guided visits are organised by the local tourist association.

The bunker walk near Montal combines a varied landscape with a fascinating chapter of contemporary history. The complex was planned following the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938 and built between 1939 and 1941 as part of the ‘Vallo Alpino Littorio’.

Bunker No. 10 was once part of a military defence system and was equipped with artillery and machine guns. Today, the bunker lies quietly and almost hidden within the landscape, serving as a reminder of a chapter in recent history that is often barely visible in everyday life. It is precisely this contrast that makes the tour particularly appealing: whilst you walk through the peaceful countryside around Montal, you gain an insight into a little-known chapter of recent history.

The bunker walk takes you through meadows and woods to a former bunker complex dating back to the Second World War.

Free parking lot at the church of Montal.

From Bruneck, take the Puster Valley SS49 state road towards St. Lorenzen and Brixen. At the exit of St. Lorenzen, take the turn-off towards the Gadertal valley. After about 2 kilometres, turn right and follow the signs to Montal; after about 800 metres, you will find the car park by the church on your right.

This is the Bunker No. 10, which was once equipped with weapons – artillery and machine guns. The bunker is privately owned and can only be visited as part of a guided tour and by prior arrangement.

The tour ist not suitable for strollers.
