Alpine hike from St. Magdalena via Tscharniet Alm to Hochstein with a ridge section.

Parking lot on payment at the head of the valley in the Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena.

Coming from Innsbruck/Brennero (A): Drive on the Highway of Brennero (A22) until the exit Bressanone/Val Pusteria, then go on along the SS49-E66 for about 58kms until you arrive in Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies Valley, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.
Coming from Lienz (A): You can reach us also padding by Lienz in Westtyrol (A). You have to cross the Austrian-Italian border between Ahrnbach and Winnebach (B100-E66) and drive on the SS46-E66 until Monguelfo. To get to Tesido and the Val Casies, we recommend to take the exit West in Monguelfo.

Bus line 441

From the Head of the Valley in the Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena (1460 m, paid parking) follow trail marker no. 48 across the bridge over the Pidig stream. Turn left and after the Schlosserhof farm turn right. Continue along the trail to the junction, then turn right following trail marker no. 48 and go uphill through the forest to the Tscharnietalm (1976 m, no refreshment facilities). Then continue following the trail marker no. 48 in a southeasterly direction to the junction, there turn right and continue southeasterly through a stony area on a steep trail (still trail marker no. 48) and arrive at a flat depression on the west ridge of the Kerlspitze (2500 m), turn right along the ridge to a second depression (2438 m) and shortly reach the Hochstein (2469 m).

Alternatively: below the Tscharnietalm at the first bend turn right and follow trail no. 48B to the "Burg." There turn left, continuing always on trail no. 48B to the ridge, then follow the somewhat exposed trail to the summit.

Descent: trail no. 48 continues to the Gerichtshals (2239 m) through the Verselltal valley, which leads to the Tolder Hütte (1942 m, refreshments available) and the Randlhütte (1862 m, refreshments available) in S. Martino. From here take the bus or use the "Talblickweg" route (approx. 30 min).
