From Merano / Meran to the Passeier Valley in direction of Passo Rombo until Plan / Pfelders.

Follow the (southwest) road from the large Pfelders/Plan parking lot, passing the village on the left-hand side, on the way to Lazins/Lazines (8). Soon, you’ll arrive at the Lazinser Alm mountain pasture at the head of the valley (8.24). Proceed (northwest) along the new Merano High Mountain Traill (the previous one was closed due to the risk of rockfalls), passing the Lazinser Alm on the right-hand side. Although initially flat, the path soon steepens as it rises further up the slope. Cross some vertiginous hairpin bends before the terrain flattens out. At this point the incline is not as steep, but higher up another series of hairpin bends lie awaiting before the route (southwest) brings you up to the remote Stettiner Hütte refuge. 

Trail #48 (northwards) starts right next to the large refuge. Due to the ever-present threat of rockfalls, a section of the old trail to the Hohe Wilde was closed off. At long last, the authorities got their act together and a new route was opened in 2012, fitted with secure safety cables in certain points. Head along trail #48 and follow the old sign over the ridge until you see the warning sign: "Steinschlag" (Rockfalls!). At this point turn left and follow the red markers across a partly exposed stretch all the way to the summit. As you’ll find out, the secure safety cables and steps cut out of the rock will come in handy. It takes between 90’ to 2 hours to reach the summit of the Hohe Wilde.
