Shortdescription

Wayside shrine of Welsberg – with frescoes by Michael Pacher, built to protect from plague and misfortune.

General description

The wayside shrine of Welsberg dates back to around 1460 and was partially destroyed in 1882. Its four sides depict the Virgin Mary with Child, the Crucifixion, St. George, St. Augustine, and the saints Barbara, Margaret, and Catherine. The frescoes contain fragments of the original paintings attributed to Michael Pacher.
