The famous little church in St. Kathrein is situated on a rise in Hafling and can be seen from far away in Meran and Environs. The Romanesque church has its origins in the 13th century and features well-preserved frescos from the 14th century. Fantastic views of the city of Meran as well as the Texelgruppe range can be enjoyed from the church.

In winter: Due to temperature fluctuations and sub-zero temperatures at night, the hiking trails may be icy. We strongly advise caution and recommend using snow chains for hiking boots.

We recommend to provide information about the current situation.

From the car park in Hafling, it is a beautiful, one-hour walk to the village of St. Kathrein. The trail first leads in the direction of the town hall and from here the old road – also called the Bürgeleweg trail – leads through the gorge to the Tourist office. The way is also called "Adventure Trail of Hafling". At the office’s information board follow the small street no. 2 until St. Kathrein, alternatively you can follow the shady forest trail no. 14 to your destination.

The church is not the only attraction in St. Kathrein. The Sulfner riding stable is also worth a visit. Here one can see the famous Haflinger horses or even take part in an introductory course or go for a ride.

This hike can be done with a buggy. The last part, from the Tourist office to St. Kathrein, can be covered on the paved road no. 2 closed to traffic.

You can return to the village by taking bus no. 225. Walk from St. Kathrein Church towards the main road (5 minutes). Take the bus from the ‘St. Kathrein’ stop to ‘Hafling Dorf’.
